Phase 9 of the broadcast TV spectrum repack, in which more than half of all TV stations in the United States are changing frequencies to make room for wireless services, ended Friday, May 1. The tenth and final phase launched May 2. In April, another 27 stations changed frequencies, bringing the total number of stations that have successfully transitioned to approximately 85 percent of the total 1,000 TV stations that must make the change.
When a station transitions to a new frequency, viewers in that community must rescan their TVs to continue to receive the channel and the local weather, emergency alerts and other lifesaving information it provides for free. If you live in any of the communities listed below and haven’t done so, now is the time to rescan your TV to ensure you are receiving all your free, local channels.
A TV rescan is relatively easy to do using your TV remote. You can visit TVAnswers.org to find out when stations in your area are moving and sign up for text and email alerts to be notified exactly when you need to perform a TV rescan. Keep in mind your community may have different stations moving at different times, so you may have to rescan more than once. Please note that stations’ frequency changes may be delayed as broadcasters remain on the air to provide you with important COVID-19 updates. So make sure to tune into your local stations for more information.
